Third Level Education
Degree and Diploma courses through Irish are currently offered in Fiontar (Dublin City University), in Acadamh na hOllscolaíochta Gaeilge (National University of Ireland, Galway) and one or two other third level institutiions also offer third level subjects through Irish. The Fondúireacht would like to help establish other courses with the following characteristics:
- Where the courses would be innnovative and mould-breaking and where calculated risk taking is encouraged.
- Where there would be a direct connection between study and application and where the educational environment would be open to the surrounding Irish speaking community
- Where an interdisciplinary environment would be at the centre of the project
- Where particular importance would be accorded to the teacher student relationship to encourage a radical attitude, creativity and idealism
- Where an emphasis would be placed on international relations, globalisation, cultural diversity, sustainable development and innovation
- Where the development and recreation of Gaelic culture would be at the heart of the enterprise. From this it would be expected that the courses would eventually develop links with other Celtic countries, Scots Gaelic communities in particular.
- Where the creation of new Irish speaking communities would be central to the project (s).
